REPOSTED FROM AMNY:

MTA nostalgia train returns to NYC for holiday season

By    lauren.cook@amny.com
A New York City holiday tradition is back  -- and no, we’re not talking about the windows at Macy’s.
The MTA’s nostalgia train is once again rolling down the city’s subway tracks for the month of December, adding a little holiday old-timiness to the transit system.
For just a swipe of your MetroCard ($2.75) you can hop on the “Shoppers Special” line and take a trip back in time.
This year’s nostalgia train is made up of eight R1/9 cars, also called City Cars, the MTA said. The cars served lines that are no longer used – including the AA, BB, CC, EE and H – from the 1930s through the 1970s.
“We owe a great deal to these City Cars, because they were durable work horses that remained in our fleet for 40 years. They are the foundation of every subway car we have designed since, and they continue to serve as a reminder of our past and how far we have come in design and customer comfort,” said Wynton Habersham, NYC Transit’s senior vice president of subways. “Our customers love riding these vintage classics every year, and we love showing them off.”
Plop yourself down on a vintage rattan seat and see what it was like to ride the subway in another era, complete with incandescent light bulbs, drop sash-style windows, ceiling fans and roll signs.
The train will run on the M line between Second Avenue and Queens Plaza every Sunday in December through the weekend before Christmas: Dec. 4, 11 and 18.
You can board a nostalgia train at Queens Plaza, 23rd Street-Ely Avenue, Lexington Avenue-53rd Street, Fifth Avenue-53rd Street, 47th-50th streets-Rockefeller Center, Broadway-Lafayette Street, 42nd Street-Bryant Park, 34th Street-Herald Square, 23rd Street-Sixth Avenue, 14th Street-Sixth Avenue, West 4th Street-Washington Square and Second Avenue. For more information on train times, click here
Happy riding and happy shopping!
