5/2- Whitney Museum Block Party! RSVP on 4/13!

***Free admission tickets may be reserved online beginning on Monday April 13; reservations are recommended.

The Whitney will offer free admission to the Museum on Gansevoort Street, sponsored by Macy’s. Created in the spirit of a neighborhood festival, the Whitney Block Party will welcome visitors of all ages with free art and performance, including hands-on activities and participatory events.

Throughout the day, booths designed by a diverse group of contemporary artists and community organizations will offer activities for a range of audiences, including karaoke, map making, and performance workshops. Large-scale acts on the main stage will include all-ages performances, including puppetry, dance, music, and poetry. These distinctive projects embody the Museum’s multidisciplinary and inclusive approach to contemporary art.

The festivities will encourage audiences to experience the new location and new architecture as part of the Museum’s active engagement with artists and the city. All the activities and performances are designed by artists and community organizations.

Booths and activities will be offered by Ei Arakawa and Shimon Minamikawa, Trisha Baga, Bed Stuy Love Affair, Friends of the High Line, K8 Hardy and Ryan McNamara, J.T. Jobbagy Inc., the Meatpacking District Improvement Association, Lize Mogel, My Barbarian, Nari Ward, and the Whitney Education Community Advisory Network.

Performances will be presented by Mark Beasley, Camp & Street (DonChristian, Le1f, Rahel, Boody, and special guest), The Door – A Center of Alternatives: the performing arts program, The Eichelburglers (Jennifer Miller, Heather Green, and special guest), The Tracie Morris Band with special guests Mr. Jerome Harris and Jemman, Jacolby Satterwhite and La’fem Ladosha, and A Tribe Called Red.

Ends 10/19 - Jeff Koons: A Retrospective - Pay What You Wish Friday Nights!


















UPDATE: OCT 18-OCT 19: OPEN 36 HOURS 

To celebrate the final days of Jeff Koons: A Retrospective and the culmination of the Whitney’s uptown exhibition program prior to the opening of its new building downtown, the Museum will stay open for 36 continuous hours: October 18, 11 am–October 19, 11 pm. Check back soon for information about programs and events.
Through October 17, the Whitney is also observing extended hours on Mondays and Fridays:
Mondays 11 am–6 pm
Fridays 11 am–9pm

No plans on Friday night?

There's an entire exhibition waiting for you at the Whitney Museum.

Every Friday, From 6pm-9pm, admission is pay-what-you-wish tickets, while normal admission ranges from $16-$20 per person.

If you're 18 or under, you're in luck, admission is free until, well when you hit 19. :p

"Admission is pay-what-you-wish on Fridays, 6–9 pm; pay-what-you-wish tickets are available in person only and may not be purchased in advance. Tickets purchased online for Friday admission are at full price but allow the ticket holder to bypass the regular admission line.  
The Whitney offers free admission for membersand visitors ages 18 and under. These tickets are available at the Museum only."
