UPDATED on January 5, 2016:

FACEBOOK EVENT

Concept
The Lowline is a plan to use innovative solar technology to illuminate an historic trolley terminal on the Lower East Side of New York City. Our vision is a stunning underground park, providing a beautiful respite and a cultural attraction in one of the world’s most dense, exciting urban environments.

Introducing the Lowline Lab
The Lowline Lab is a long-term open laboratory and technical exhibit designed to test and showcase how the Lowline will grow and sustain plants underground. Built inside an abandoned market on the Lower East Side, just two blocks from the site of the proposed future Lowline, the Lowline Lab includes a series of controlled experiments in an environment mimicking the actual Lowline site.

Location:
140 Essex Street
(between Rivington and Stanton Streets)
Lower East Side - New York City
Subway: J/M/F Essex Delancey Street

Hours:
Saturday and Sunday
11am - 5pm
Free and Open to the Public
October 2015- March 2016

FACEBOOK EVENT

The Lowline Lab is a long-term experiment and technical exhibit designed to test years of research into growing and maintaining plant life underground. Built inside an abandoned market on the Lower East Side, just two blocks from the site of the proposed future Lowline, the Lowline Lab includes a series of controlled experiments in an environment mimicking the actual Lowline site. Each experiment relies on our solar technology collection and distribution system to remotely direct natural sunlight from the building’s rooftop to plant life below.

By visiting the Lowline Lab, you’ll get the opportunity to see this technology up-close, interact with the experiments and get a better understanding of our vision for the Lowline and its game-changing potential for the future of public spaces.

Beginning October 17, the Lab will be open to the public every Saturday & Sunday, 12pm - 6pm.

We hope to see you there!

Enjoy,

Terresa =)

If you can't make it, see some preview pics from Bloomberg here.

10/2/13 WED Future of The Lowline

The Future of The Lowline with Co-Founders Dan Barasch and James Ramsey

Wednesday Oct 2, 7:00 PM - 9:15 PM

Brooklyn Law School - Moot Court Room
250 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY

2/3/4/5/R/A/C/F trains at Brooklyn Borough Hall

ticket Price: $2.00 per person, bring up to 2 guests and they pay $1/

Our next meetup is scheduled for October 2 to learn about The Future of The Lowline from its founders. The venue is at 250 Joralemon Street, not Geraldo's Cafe at 205 State Street, as referenced in some online promotions.

Dan Barasch and James Ramsey have worked tenaciously to transform a long abandoned underground Lower East Side train yard into an extraordinary public space.  Using specially created mirrors to channel in and amplify natural sunlight, their creation will also depend on strong public/private partnerships.  If you’re a fan of innovative architecture, design, technology or development, you’ll want to hear how they are making it happen and get a glimpse of their futurist vision:
