Come Out & Play 2015

Come Out & Play turns 10 this year!

Have we reached the level of New York institution? Not sure about that, but we are still trying to make the city more fun and playful.
In honor of our 10th festival, we’ll be featuring some of your favorite games from the history of the festival.

Check out these great events that make up this year’s festival:

Physical Game Design Masterclass
NYU Game Center, July 11-12

Designing physical play presents specific game design challenges. You need to account for physical skills and limitations. You need to track and communicate the state of the game in different ways. Fortunately, there are a lot of mechanics we can build on, from folk games to social games to sports. In this two-day workshop, we’ll explore various aspects of the design of physical play and games by examining classic games and creating our own new ones.
Led by Greg Trefry, Director of the Come Out & Play Festival and a game designer at Gigantic Mechanic.
New York University Game Center at 2 Metrotech Center 8th Floor Brooklyn, NY 11201.

ESC Developer Night
ESI Design, July 15 from 6-9 PM
Hosted by

Join Playcrafting NYC as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Come Out & Play Festival with a night of 30-person multiplayer games on the exciting new ESC platform! What better way to celebrate the anniversary of Come Out & Play than with some epic 30-person live multiplayer games? ESC is a multi-player gaming and social experience unlike any that exists today. More information.

Physical and real-world games present unique design challenges, from managing large crowds to keeping track of players over large spaces to unpredictable weather and changing city architecture. Join us for Come Out & Say as veteran real-world game designers talk about a tricky design challenge they faced and tried to solve with one of their games. Gain valuable insight into making games from a wide variety of perspectives in this round of fast paced design talks.

This year After Dark returns to DUMBO where it will light up the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza (just across from 155 Water Street).

field_day_iconField Day
Governors Island, Parade Ground Field, July 18 from 11 AM to 5 PM
Field Day showcases spectacular new field games & sports for adults to play. Now an institution within Come Out & Play, the Field Day in the Parade Grounds on Governors Island is your chance to play wild new sports and giant game spectacles with the skyline of New York City as your backdrop.

Governors Island, July 18 from 11 AM to 4 PM
Come Out & Play Family Day offers games designed specifically for families and children of all ages, brought to the festival by ESI Design, one of the world’s foremost experience design firms. This year will also feature a fabulous new area designed specifically for pre-school-age children — T.O.T.S (Travelers of Tiny Size) — sponsored by the television show Poppy Cat.
