1/26 - HOPE 2015 - The NYC Street Survey

ONE NIGHT...
On January 26, 2015, the NYC Department of Homeless Services will conduct its annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE). We need thousands of volunteers to canvass parks, subways, and other public spaces to estimate the number of people living unsheltered in the city. Just one night of your time will help us collect vital information for outreach teams to help homeless people leave the streets for a better life.

3,000 NEW YORKERS NEEDED…The information volunteers gather during HOPE 2014 is critical to our ongoing efforts, but we need your help to make it possible. We need more than 3,000 volunteers, age 18 or older, to give just one night of their time to help survey the number of New Yorkers living on city streets. We will provide you with all the training necessary to conduct the survey on the night of HOPE plus a quick, basic online orientation when you register.

7/18-7/19 - Come Out & Play Festival!

Come Out & Play is a two-day festival of street games that turns New York City into a giant playground.

After Dark – DUMBO, Brooklyn, July 18, 7 PM to the wee hours
Each year After Dark turns the city streets in a particular neighborhood into an arcade with social party games, large physical video games and wild new street games. This year After Dark lands in DUMBO where it will light up the Archway and bring games to the cobblestone streets of Brooklyn.

Field Day – Governors Island, Parade Ground Field, July 19,  11am-5pm
Field Day showcases spectacular new field games & sports for adults to play. This year Field Day will return to the Parade Grounds of Governors Island with a slate of awesome new games.

Family Day – Governors Island, July 19, 11am-4pm
Family Day is a mini-festival of games for the whole family, organized by ESI Design, one of the world’s foremost experience design firms. All of the games will connect together in a single fun storyline about Time Travel — complete with an official Time Travel Agency, games throughout time, chronological paradoxes, and imminent threats to the space-time continuum! You’ll be able to play just one or two games as you like, or all of them for an epic Time Travel adventure.

All games are free.
Games run multiple times throughout each event.

Event takes place from 11am to 1pm at Elizabeth Street Garden located between Prince and Spring St.
*Volunteers will be given a voucher for a free cup of frozen yogurt up to a $6 value. 2/17-2/21/14 - Social Media Week is Almost Here! Attend free events/parties, stream content! And try to win a $250 pass to SMW! Volunteer!

Social Media Week is just around the corner - from Monday, February 17th to Friday, February 21st!

Although there are paid passes that range from $250-$1000, did you know there are a handful of events that are free to attend, including Mashable's 3rd Annual SMW Beer Pong Tournament? which, as I recall from last year had food, free drinks, a beer pong tournament and some startup freebies like the Uber rides and Seamless giftcards. 

Another memorable and free event was the "Tweet is Right" where prizes were up for grab by being the first to tweet the price closest without going over in an allotted time period.  There was even one at Likeable Media where speed dating took place with 2 concentric circles rotating with fun social media questions.
