3/14 - Happy Pi Day of the Century!

Pi Day of the Century
Math aficionados and those of you who enjoy weird date alignment coincidences, come on out to Madison Square Park this Saturday evening for the National Museum of Mathematics' celebration of Pi Day of the Century.

Join hundreds of fellow New Yorkers in creating an illuminated circle in the park that demonstrates proof of pi - the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, in case you didn't know - on the only day this century when the date aligns with the first five digits of the irrational number (3.1415...) that goes on infinitely without repeating.  Demos for the little ones will take place that morning in the park, 9AM Saturday, 8:30PM-9:30PM. Free!  momath.org.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14
Celebrate the Pi Day of the Century!
9:00 am
Get ready for a mathematical morning! Join MoMath at 9 am in Madison Square Park; we’ll count ourselves to figure out what pi means, and then count down together to 9:26 am (3.14.15.9.16).
9:30 am - 5:00 pm
MoMath will open 30 minutes for a day full of special pi-related activities! Go on a scavenger hunt through the exhibits, try out circular tic-tac-toe and pi puzzles, make pi personal by finding a unique number sequence in its infinite digits, estimate pi using candy, and more. Plus, be there when we announce the winners of the 2015 Pi Day competition and read out their submissions at 3:14 pm.

8:30 pm
After the day is done, get ready to count down to 9:26 pm — and light up New York — in an exciting MathHappening event! Use glowing light sticks to discover the beautiful recurrence of pi among circles of all sizes, and end the evening with free hot chocolate and pie from SD26 and Strong Place.
This event will take place at Baruch Gymnasium, located at 55 Lexington Ave.

Calling all Pi Day participants: Due to the incredible response to this event (as well as the predicted rain), the evening Pi Day festivities have been relocated to the more spacious indoor gymnasium at Baruch College. The Baruch Gymnasium is located at 55 Lexington Ave.; enter on the corner of 24th St. and Lexington Ave.
In case of heavy rain, the morning activity will be moved into the Museum.

(Note:  registration is not required for the morning event.)
