12/21 - Make Music New York - Join in on the Fun!


Make Music Winter is Sunday!


Join thirteen participatory musical parades this Sunday and celebrate the first day of winter! And, share your experience of the Solstice with us: tweet at @makemusicny, and tag your posts with #MMWinter2014

11:00 AMWinterize

 at Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Christopher Dylan Herbert's wandering version of Schubert's Winterreise, for baritone and radios. Radios will be available for the first 65 participants.

1:00 PMLa Trullita NavideƱa de Los Sures

 in Williamsburg: El Puente CADRE, Southside Merchants and St. Paul's Church fuse the exuberant Caribbean parrandawith the reflective Mexican posada tradition, with music by BombaYo.

2:00 PMSoho Gamelan Walk

 at Spring Street and 6th Ave: Play cast iron buildings in Soho with composer Daniel Goode.

2:30 PMFlat Foot Flatbush
 along Flatbush Ave: Appalachian dancing and fiddling led by the Nick Horner Family and Jalopy Theater. (A free workshop at Brooklyn Central Library begins at 1:00 PM.) Claim your free Car2Go
 registration with 30 minutes of drive time (code BLYNK) at the 7th Ave and Flatbush parade stop!

3:00 PMLightmotif

 in Long Island City: Brass musicians are invited to join Hiroya Miura in this parade which uses the Long Island City Sundial, using the Citibank building as the gnomon. Download the music in advance here


4:00 PMKalimbascope

 in Williamsburg: Composer JC King's psychedelic thumb piano parade along Grand Street in North Brooklyn. Kalimbas will be available to the first 20 participants. 

4:00 PMParranda con Paranda

 at 1330 Intervale Ave in the Bronx: Join WHEDCO and the Bronx Music Heritage Center for an afternoon parranda celebrating Puerto Rican and Garifuna traditions. 

4:00 PMPrelude
 at Cadman Plaza (William Jay Gaynor Memorial): James Holt's slow-motion Bach procession through DUMBO, guided by your smartphone. Download the tracks in advance here


4:00 PMVillage in Volume

 in the West VIllage: Celebrate fifty years of Terry Riley's iconic piece In C with its first-ever mobile performance.

4:00 PMWheels

 in Prospect Park: Bring your bike to participate in Nissim Schaul's parade for bicycle bells, with a score transmitted by computer-controlled helmets with lights. Tuned bike bells will be distributed to the first 50 participants. 

5:00 PMBell by Bell

 from 55th St and 6 1/2 Ave: Wander through the enigmatic 6 1/2 Ave with Tom Peyton, playing pieces for the colored handbells he supplies.

5:00 PMThe Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk

: Walk the High Line with this smartphone-powered parade, and turn your footsteps into twinkling music. Download the app for iOS

6:30 PMPilgrimage
 from the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Walk through Central Park singing medieval songs once sung along the route to Santiago de Compostela with conductor Malcolm J. Merriweather. Download the music here
