About City Harvest:
City Harvest pioneered food rescue in 1982 and, this year, will collect 55 million pounds of excess food to help feed the nearly 1.4 million New Yorkers struggling to put meals on their tables. Through relationships with farms, restaurants, grocers, and manufacturers, City Harvest collects nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. City Harvest takes a long-term approach to hunger relief through its Healthy Neighborhoods initiative. In communities with elevated rates of food insecurity, poverty and diet-related illnesses, City Harvest has developed programs and partnerships to increase the availability of affordable, fresh produce and inspire healthy, budget-conscious meal choices through nutrition education. Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor compete to build large-scale structures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The imaginative sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station.

In anticipation of the Canstruction® 22nd Annual NYC Competition exhibition at Brookfield Place, past audience favorites will also be rebuilt and on display in the lobbies of 245 Park Avenue, Grace Building, and One Liberty Plaza. Once dismantled, the cans of food used to build these imaginative sculptures are donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need.

Enjoy,
Terresa =)

These droolin' minions are can-tastically cute!

From PIX11 site: The 26 gravity-defying sculptures for the 21st annual Canstruction exhibition and food drive will be revealed on October 31st at Brookfield Place (formerly World Financial Center).

Last year's Canstruction saw nearly 100,000 full cans of food turned into larger-than-life pop art masterpieces by New York City's top architecture, engineering and design firms.  The sculptures included a Jeff-Koons-inspired balloon dog, a classic Greek coffee cup, and the Staten Island "Eye" Ferris wheel.

This year's sculptures will remain on display from October 31st until November 13th.  Visitors are encouraged to bring high-quality, non-perishable cans, which will be donated, along with the cans used in the exhibition, to City Harvest.
